Find the nuts drill

Ten boards, one question each — spot the single best possible hand before you check.

Why drill the nuts specifically

Knowing your own hand’s strength is only half of hand reading — the other half is knowing what the board allows. This drill asks a narrower, harder question than “what do I have?”: given only the board, what is the single strongest possible two-card holding? Getting fast at that makes it much easier to judge how vulnerable your own hand really is.

How the questions are picked

Each board is dealt by the same worker that generates the ranked Trainer’s find-the-nuts puzzles, then multiple-choice options are built from real candidate holdings, not decoys that are obviously wrong. The ten boards are fixed and never change, so a score here means the same thing today as it will next month, and two people can compare results on identical questions.

Frequently asked questions

What does "the nuts" mean?
The single best possible hand on a given board — the strongest two-card holding any player could have right now. Knowing it tells you how vulnerable your own hand really is.
How is this different from just knowing hand rankings?
Hand rankings tell you which category beats which. This drill asks a harder question: given only the board, which specific two-card holding makes the strongest hand possible on it right now?
How many boards are there?
Ten, dealt by the same worker that generates the ranked Trainer’s find-the-nuts puzzles. The set is fixed and never changes, so two people can compare scores on identical boards.
