Equity

The share of the pot a hand or range expects to win on average across every way the remaining cards could come.

Equity is a snapshot, not a guarantee. A hand can be a big favourite on the flop and still lose the pot, because equity assumes it goes to showdown with no further betting. In practice a hand rarely collects its full equity, since betting, folding and position all shift how much of it actually gets realised.
