Polarised
A range or bet split between very strong hands and near-total bluffs, with the middling hands folded out or checked back rather than bet.
A polarised range is the opposite of a 'merged' one, which keeps its middling hands in the betting line as well. Players polarise for leverage: a range with no medium-strength hands left to protect can size a bet up as large as it likes, since every hand in it is either happy to get all the money in or losing nothing by bluffing. Facing a polarised bet, a caller's decision comes down almost entirely to bluff-catching: does this hand beat enough of the bluffs to make calling worthwhile?
