Equity estimation drill

Ten real matchups, no calculator — guess hero's equity from experience, then check yourself against the live equity engine.

Question 1 of 10 · Score 0

Hero ace of spades, ace of hearts vs villain king of clubs, king of diamonds preflop. What’s hero’s equity?

Why estimate instead of calculate

At the table there’s no equity calculator: you have a few seconds and whatever feel you’ve built up from experience. This drill trains exactly that skill, estimating rather than computing, by showing a fixed hero-versus-villain matchup and checking your gut number against the equity engine rather than a rounded textbook figure. Postflop matchups are enumerated exactly; preflop ones are Monte Carlo, so the last decimal can shift by a fraction between attempts.

What the ten matchups cover

Preflop coin-flips, a big pair against a dominated ace, and draws against made hands on various boards — the same spread of “equity isn’t just pair versus pair” spots that trip players up most often. A guess within 5 percentage points counts as correct.

Frequently asked questions

What does an equity estimation drill actually train?
At the table you never get a calculator, only a few seconds and whatever feel you have built up. This drill trains that feel directly: it shows a fixed matchup and grades your gut estimate against the exact answer, rather than letting you compute it.
How close does my guess need to be?
Within 5 percentage points of the exact figure counts as correct. Equity estimation is a fast, at-the-table skill, not exact arithmetic, so the tolerance is wider than the pot odds drill.
How is the correct answer worked out?
Live, by the same Monte Carlo equity engine behind the site's Equity Calculator — not a rounded or textbook figure.
